Empowering women of Kirklees

Women have much to contribute to the fabric of our society, but for too long women have felt frustrated at the difficulty of achieving an active role in our communities.

In partnership with Kirklees Women's Alliance, our STEPS program has enabled women to elevate their profiles as inspiring role models for their families, communities, and wider society.

Through a number of interactive workshops, local women increased their confidence and developed assertiveness skills, before going on to learn more about civic engagement and leadership in local community settings.  Successful local women were invited as inspirational role models to talk to participants about their roles as community leaders, professionals and councillors, and the challenges they had to overcome along their professional journeys.

Over 60 women have been empowered to have a voice, to engage with the debates in our society and to play an active part in their solutions.  In July 2011, they came together at Dewsbury Town Hall to be presented with their certificates by Cllr Kath Pinnock who congratulated the women on their achievements.  Click here to view the photos.
