Treasures Revealed in Kirklees

Ever wondered what goes on inside a Mosque or a Church?  Wanted to visit a Sikh Gurdwara, Hindu Temple or Buddhist Centre but never had the opportunity? Maybe you’re curious about people’s different beliefs, how they worship, or how faith affects your local community?  If so, then here's your chance to find out.

Friday 15th - Sunday 17th July 2011

Every year a variety of places of worship around Kirklees take part in the festival to give visitors a unique opportunity to see inside and learn more about local faith communities.

This year a range of exciting activities was on offer for people to learn more about local faith communities.  Visitors were met by welcoming hosts at each place of worship, who provided guided tours while answering any questions, sharing their lives and faiths with each other.

Visitors added verses to a handwritten gospel at St Barnabas’ Church in Liversedge, ate in the free langar kitchen at the Sikh gurdwara in Huddersfield, discovered the Baha’i faith in New Mill, experienced Hindu worship in Huddersfield and visited a Meet Your Muslim Neighbours event in Dewsbury.

For those interested in history, there were history tours at Dewsbury Minster, graveyard tours at the Quaker Meeting House in High Flatts and an opportunity to trace your family tree at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Birchencliffe.  Many churches had information about the members of their local communities which stretch back many generations.
